Danny "Dan" Rowell
June 13th, 1932 - February 20th, 2025
Dan (Danny) Rowell of Colorado Springs, CO was born in Moab, Utah on June 13, 1932, the son of Wilbur Spaulding Rowell and Thelma Stillwagon Rowell. He spent most of his early childhood on a modest homestead in Castle Valley called Porcupine Ranch, until the family relocated at school age to Moab. He attended Moab schools and after graduating high school in 1950 he entered the US Army the same year. He served in both enlisted and commission positions and was an artillery gunnery officer (2LT) at the time of his discharge in 1953. He began attending the University of Utah where he met the love of his life, Virginia Reed and they were married on June 5, 1959. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1960 with a minor in physical sciences and a major in journalism. They relocated to Elko, NV as Dan began employment as an editor of the Elko Daily Free Press for five years. In 1964 they relocated to Boise, ID where he worked for Morrison-Knudsen Company and held various communication and management positions including technical writer and photographer. Travel was often required for various major construction projects and Dan was well respected by others in his profession. During his career he worked at various locations including Boise, ID; Burlingame, CA; Barranquilla, Colombia South America; and St. Louis, MO. He retired after 34 years.
Dan and Virginia lovingly adopted two children, Steven in 1966 and three years later Diane in 1969. Favorite family memories included weekends spent camping, fishing and boating together. Dan enjoyed playing golf and poker with his friends, and spending an occasional day at the racetrack betting horses.
After retirement Dan and Virginia enjoyed many road trips together, researching family genealogy, visiting friends and family, and a few special destinations including Hawaii and Germany. They moved to Winston, OR for several years before moving back to Meridian, ID for 12 years, and relocated to Colorado in 2022.
Dan enjoyed passing time with long walks, working jigsaw puzzles, and found that he was very talented at painting and sketching. Another favorite hobby was creating custom crossword puzzles based on each book of the bible.
Dan is survived by his wife Virginia of 65 years, his son Steven D. Rowell of Nampa, ID, daughter Diane K. Goodboe of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Cynthia K. Tenney, John M. Goodboe, and Natalie D. Harrison (Hunter), and four great-grandchildren (Colby, Keegan, Kinsley, and Daniel).
Dan was truly a one-of-a kind good man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was the best storyteller of all time, had a story for everything, and those stories will be missed. He has finally been called home to be with the Lord and is now embraced by those who passed on before him, especially his sister Kathleen, who he had an extra special bond with. Knowing that he is finally free of pain and no longer suffers brings great comfort to our family. We all love him and miss him immensely.
Pallbearers: Dan Hawkins, Tate Goodboe, Hunter Harrison
Honorary Pallbearer: Steven Rowell, John Goodboe, Colby Pearson, Keegan Burke
