Samuel Joseph Vigil, 59, of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away on February 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. When you think of Sam, aka Sammy, you cannot help but smile—his quick wit and infectious humor had a way of making the world feel lighter. Whether he was cracking a joke to lift someone’s spirits or sharing a story that left everyone in tears from laughter, Sam had a gift for bringing joy to those around him.
His love for the outdoors was unmatched, and hunting was where he felt most at home. One of his most cherished memories was his first deer hunting trip with his grandfather—a story he would recount with the same excitement, detail and laughter every time.
Sam was also an avid sports fan, with football being his favorite. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, he even named two of his beloved fur babies after the team.
A talented cook, Sammy was known for dishes that everyone requested time and time again. His salsa was amazing, and his biscuits and gravy, tacos, and steaks were just a few of the many meals that he loved making. Sam’s fur babies also benefited from his cooking, every evening he cooked them something very delicious.
Beyond his love for the outdoors, Sam had a unique flair. If you ever saw his first car, you’d understand—it sparkled from miles away, much like his personality: vibrant, bright, and unforgettable. His love for cars was evident in the countless hours he spent at the car wash with his dog, meticulously cleaning and detailing his vehicles until the rims and tires gleamed.
Sam had a natural ability to connect with people, a skill he used to his advantage as he grew in the restaurant and retail industry. His passion for customer service was undeniable, and those who knew him speak of his big heart, infectious laugh, and the countless memories they shared; Sam always made the workday better for his employees, co-workers and customers.
Sam is deeply loved and will be forever missed by his wife, Marisa Vigil; his mother, Crusita Vigil, who resides in Carlsbad, NM; his brother, Louis Vigil; and his sister, Dolores Vigil. He is also survived by his cherished furry BFF, Dallas, who was more than a pet—she was Sam’s true companion and soulmate.
Sam’s laughter, kindness, and larger-than-life presence will live on in the stories we share and the love we hold for him. Though he may no longer be with us, the joy he brought into our lives will never fade, and his memory will continue to bring smiles and laughter for years to come.
