Sylvia Arliss Giberti
August 12th, 1947 - February 19th, 2025
Sylvia was born in Salem Oregon to John Wilson Latane and his wife Arliss Elizabeth, the youngest of three sisters. She graduated from North Salem High School in 1965 and two weeks later she married Rick Wilson and moved to San Francisco.
She worked as an information operator for the phone company. They had two children, first Thomas Andrew, then Freedom Elizabeth. Not long after Freedom was born they moved back to Salem. Sylvia attended Chemeketa Community College and earned an associates degree in early childhood education. During this time she had a work study job in Chemeketa’s library and ended up applying for a full time job and worked there for her entire career. In the 80’s she took a calligraphy class at the Salem Senior Center and wound up joining the Capital Calligraphy Guild and was a member until the 2020’s. She was an artist who enjoyed photography, glass etching, sewing, piano, embira, dancing and listening to music. She belonged to a folk dancing club for several years. In the 90’s she met John Giberti and they dated for 6 years then got married and have been married for 21 years. They enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Nevada, California, Tennessee, and NewYork and more, they loved walking Oregon beaches especially lands end Lincoln City where they had their first date.
She is proceeded in death by her two sisters Janet and Susan and grandson Ethan. She is survived by her husband John, son Thomas, daughter Freedom, grandchildren Andrew, Crystal, Jeremy, Amber, Lindsay, Jolie, and Nolan and 15 great grand children. As well as lots of cousins and nieces and nephews. She was a beautiful person and we will miss her so much!
