Ms. Sylvia Jean Dye Padgett, 88, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025. She was born February 10, 1937 in West Columbia to the late Raleigh and Carrie Lou Dye. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Dye, and son, Mark Padgett.
Sylvia is survived by daughters Sharon Rucker (Oscar) and Melanie Dunlap (Tony Knight); grandchildren Jason Rucker (Christina), Lynsee Gibson (Ladd), Jerad Dunlap (Mary Beth), Jayme Greer, and Rachel Lane (Chris); great-grandchildren Bryce, Madison, Landyn, Lexy, Dylan, Emma, Lena, Eli, Gavin, Eden, Winnie, and Shepherd.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, and previously a longtime member at Cayce First Baptist. She owned and operated Sylvia’s Cut & Curl out of her own home for over sixty years, as well as working part-time for Thompson’s Funeral Home. She was a woman of many talents - she loved to travel, had a passion for painting and gardening, and was an avid seamstress. She was a loving Mother, Nanny, and Great Nanny to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved her family beyond compare and their lives will forever be changed because of her presence. She will be terribly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 4 at 3 p.m., with visitation preceding at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, located at 4720 Augusta Road in Lexington. A private burial will be held following the service at Southland Memorial Gardens.
