Jerrod David Johnson passed away on February 24, 2025, at the age of 55. He was born on May 27, 1969, in Wichita, Kansas, and grew up in Haysville, Kansas, where he was known for his friendly nature and kind heart.
From a young age, Jerrod dreamed of living in the Colorado mountains, inspired by summers spent there with his grandparents. After graduating Haysville-Campus high school in 1988, he moved to Fraser, Colorado, where he worked for Winter Park Ski Resort many years before later settling in Kremmling, Colorado. He embraced small-town life, participating in local events and earning local recognition for his wood carving, knitting, and crafts.
Jerrod had a deep love for bluegrass music, camping, and community, which made the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, a yearly highlight. He began camping there in the 1970s with his dad, later becoming a festival worker. This September, a Celebration of Life will be held for him in the Pecan Grove during the festival.
He is survived by his mother, L. Jayne (Bonner) Johnson, his father, David Arthur Johnson, his sister, Theresa (Johnson) Anderson, his nephew, Clayton D. Anderson, and Clayton’s wife, Kate (Schulte) Anderson.
If you know Jerrod, you knew he never met a stranger. Jerrod will be remembered for his warmth, artistic spirit, and love of people.
