Carol Jean Flayter

Our loving mother and grandmother, Carol Jean Flayter, died on February 11, 2025, after a short illness while residing in Lakewood, CO. She was 82. 

Carol was born on July 8, 1942, to Virginia M. (Casselman) and Chester F. Maleu in Milwaukee, WI. She married Melvin R. Flayter in 1962 and raised two children, Randall and Rochelle, relocating from Milwaukee to Toledo, OH. 

She did not graduate from high school but later earned her GED. She went to college at 50 to become a medical assistant, retiring from the University Toledo Medical Center (formerly Medical College of Ohio). She relocated to Colorado to be closer to her daughter and family at 80. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, son, fiancé, Harry, and dear friend, Claris Greer. She leaves behind her daughter Rochelle (Matt Bobo), grandson Richard Armola, granddaughter Samantha Armola, brother Ronald (Joan) Maleu, and many other family and friends.

Carol suffered from a few chronic diseases, including rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, that affected her mobility; however, with a survivor mentality, she stayed independent in her home until her death. Her family will always be inspired, and she will be remembered for her drive to keep moving forward regardless of the circumstances. At Carol's request, she was cremated, and there will be a celebration of her life in June 2025 in Colorado. 

She will later be laid to rest at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Toledo, OH, in a private ceremony. Instead of flowers, the family requested donations to the Seniors Resource Center in Wheat Ridge, CO https://seniorsresourcecenter.org/, a generous support that enabled her to remain in her home.
