Richard William Shea, 78, died in Olympia, WA on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. He was born in Buffalo, NY, July 19, 1946, to Patrick Edward Shea and Phillis Grace Collar. Patrick was a city boy born in Buffalo, Phyllis was a farm girl born in the village of Glen Miller, Ontario. Rick was raised on air force bases in Rome, NY 1950-1955, then Everett, WA 1956-1964, then Mt. Clemens, MI. He attended Oakland University from 1964-1966, enlisted in US Air Force in APR 1967, served in Bihn Thuy AB, South Vietnam NOV 1967-NOV 1968 retiring from the service in SEP 1987.
He married Norma Mildred Roberts in June 1971 at McChord AFB, WA. Rick remained at McChord until JUL 1976.While there the Air Force sent him to St. Martin’s College for his Bachelor’s degree in 1972 and then to Pacific Lutheran University for a Master’s degree in 1975.He served at Andrews AFB, MD from 1976-1987. He worked for the WA State Dept of Personnel from MAR 1988-MAR 2014. Norma died suddenly in JUL 2004. Rick was extremely fortunate to marry Billie Kathleen Harrison (Nee O’Neil) in Gooding, ID November 8, 2009.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, his brothers Patrick Michael (Connie) of Lacey, Mark Phillip (Janet) of Mountlake Terrace. Rick and Kathy’s children, Thomas William Shea (fiancé Elizabeth Greenleaf) of Seattle, Jennifer Lacey Kellogg (Nee Shea) wife of Michael Patrick, of Olympia, Matthew James Harrison (Jeannie) of Twin Falls, ID, and Ashley Dawn Harrison of Tumwater. In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Justyn Ray Harrison of Tumwater, WA, Brady James Harrison of Twin Falls, ID, and Tyson Allen Harrison of Eugene, OR. In addition to the numerous lessons taught to him by his wonderful parents, Rick was strongly influenced by the Boy Scout Oath and 12 Laws as well as the 10 Commandments.

A memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday March 15, 2025 at 1:00p.m located at the Temple Baptist Church 3806 College St SE, Lacey, WA, 98503
