In Loving Memory

Angela Benedetto, born August 25, 1953 in Lynchburg, SC, to the late Virginia Shirley Matthews and Muncie Matthews, Sr. Survived by the love of her life, Joseph Benedetto, Loving Son and Daughter in love whom she was very proud of, Tony (Jen) Benedetto and beautiful granddaughter Anna Benedetto. How she loved their time together, especially the beach. Angie’s son, Bryan Benedetto, has gone before her to heaven. Angie attended Winthrop College where she met lifelong friends. She found her dream job through her son, Bryan, as a teacher assistant in special education at Epworth Children Home and Corley Elementary.

Angie leaves behind two brothers Muncie (Bubba) Matthews and Johnny (Bronwyn) Matthews. Loving in-laws Cara Benedetto, Libby (Les) Case, Margaret (Bobby) Self, Nina Benedetto (Dan King), John Benedetto (Jeanne LaPointe), Peter (Beth) Benedetto, Cathy Benedetto (Vic McGraner). Wonderful nieces and nephews Candy, Jennifer, Daniel, Ben, Eden, Amelia, Will, Joe, Abby, Paul and Clare. Many close friends whom she considered sisters and brothers. All whom she loved dearly.

She was very tall for a short person. Quick to jump in and help, Angela had an instinct on what needed to be done. From prepping for a party to comforting anyone in need. She was not afraid to say what was on her mind nor unwilling to acknowledge differences of opinion. Angela was not only a caregiver to her disabled son, Bryan, but to anyone in pain or need. Her motto “You beautiful thing don’t you ever die” showed her belief in self-worth as an important component of life.

While only an assistant in a special ed class she was an educator to her head teachers as she showed them how to get the most out of their students through care and compassion. She was uniquely gifted at recognizing each child's strength while showing them how to channel it towards self-worth. The care and compassion she had for children did not stop there but overflowed into her everyday life. This can be seen by looking at the large and divergent group of friends she has known and kept bonded together; some for over fifty years. Angela was devoted to her family, her friends, and the beach. She made the world a better place for us all.
