Louis Ellen, 82, of West Columbia, SC passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025. He was born and raised in Toronto, Ohio.

Lou was preceded in death by hia wife of 59 years, Ruth Ellen.

He is survived by his two sons, Gregory D. Ellen of Columbus, Ohio, and Matthew L. Ellen of Las Vegas, NV; his four grandchildren, David, Carolyn, Micah, and Timothy; as well as 7 great-grandchildren.

Lou was a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. After serving his nation in the Vietnam War he set up private practice in Toledo, Ohio. He was an active member in the Lion’s Club and the Optimists Club and served as a board member and president of the Ohio Optometric Association.

Lou went into semi-retirement in London, Kentucky and later retired at Hulon Greene in West Columbia, SC where the community both welcomed Ruth and him with open arms. He was very active with bingo and exercise class.

He loved to travel, entertain and was an avid golfer. Other hobbies included his wood working and playing bridge. He was a life-long Buckeye and followed their success with great interest as well as the Lady Gamecocks which they were season ticket holders.

His outgoing personality and storytelling would bring smiles to all his friends and family. He will be deeply missed.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Hulon Greene Clubhouse Saturday, March 8th from 2-4pm.
