Joyce Ann McLain
December 25th, 1946 - March 5th, 2025
"Her hands nurtured the earth, her heart wandered the world, and her spirit thrived in the quiet beauty of nature—whether casting a line, exploring new horizons, or chasing the thrill of the hunt. Forever in bloom, forever free."
2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”
Joyce Ann McLain, 78, of Kingsport went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. She was born on Christmas Day in 1946, to the late R.J. and Thelma Woods. Joyce worked for Eastman Chemical Company in the CE Division where she met the love of her life, Pastor Ed McLain and retired as a Lab Chief after 31 years of service. She was devoted to the church as well as her church family. She enjoyed working in her flowers and she had a special bush that would tell her when snow was coming by the blooms. Joyce also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling with her “sister” Delores Wallace. Joyce was a loving wife, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Eaton; son, Marty Eaton; great-granddaughter, Blakeli Smith; brothers, Roger and Richard Woods.
Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Ed McLain; granddaughters, Bambi Smith and Jessica Burleson; sister, Sandra McMillion and husband Randall; brother, Ronnie “Runt” Woods and wife Neena; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Chuck Grimm and Bro. Ed McLain officiating.
A graveside service will follow at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the medical professionals who have helped her recently for their loving care. Jude 22: And of some have compassion, making a difference:
