Celia Roseann Hofer
July 27th, 1958 - February 23rd, 2025
“She made southern style mashed potatoes and gravy better than her mother”
Celia Roseann Hofer died peacefully after a long and protracted illness at home Sunday, February 23, 2025, with her daughter Katilynn and son Joshua by her side.
Roseann, as she was known by family and friends is survived by her daughter Kaitlynn Rose Hofer of the home, son Joshua Lee Reno (Lacey, WA), husband Jeff Hofer (Missoula, MT) Brothers Steve Powell (Loveland, CO), Carl Powell, Jr. (London, England) and her only granddaughter Kelsie Reno (Tacoma, WA). She is predeceased by her parents, son Jeremy Reno and brother George Powell.
Roseann was born July 27, 1958, near Orleans, France to Carl and Rosemary Powell where her father and family were stationed with the US Army. Shortly after returning to the ‘States her family transferred to Ft. Lewis, Washington and later settled in DuPont. She attended DuPont Junior High & Laughbon High School and later North Thurston High School.
Roseann married John Reno in 1976 and in 1998 after her divorce she married Jeff Hofer. She held many jobs throughout her lifetime from video rental store manager, sports memorabilia store employee and apartment complex manager but she most enjoyed her time as a waitress/hostess at Shari’s Restaurant where she met many people, made many friends and forged life-long friendships. Her outside interests included gardening, creative digital online projects and cooking. Her brother George once remarked, “she made southern style mashed potatoes and gravy better than her mother” and that said a lot!
Roseann was a life-long enthusiast of outdoor activities that included sports, camping, hiking and even fishing! She enjoyed kicking her boots up swing dancing, line-dancing or just plain shaking it a rock concert or local dance hall. Her smile and energy were a common trademark and she readily shared both as a friend, mom and grandma.
She had an expanded extended family in her neighborhood over the years having been called mom, Rosi and Grandma Rosi by her sons and daughter and the other youth that found their way to her house where they were met with food when hungry, support when needed and a safe and comfortable couch to sit a while or spend the night. She welcomed all and turned away none. She was “special” and will be missed by many, many people whose life she touched.
When her mother Rosemary passed an epitaph placed on her marker stated, “She did the best she could”. Roseann often stated that, she too, tried to do the best she could. We believe that family and friends would agree. We love you, will forever miss you and thank you.
