James Calvin McComas went home to be with the Lord on March 3rd, 2025.  Jim was born to Woodrow James and Katie Keenna (Moses) McComas in St. Albans, West Virginia.  He grew up in Nitro, West Virginia.  He had a sister, Romona Jean McCune (deceased) and two brothers, Mervin Edward and his wife Mary Lou of Fayetteville, NC and Leonard Paul and his wife Patricia of Sanford, NC.

 

Jim had two sons. He was preceded in death by Charles Micah of Lithia, Florida.  David Bryan lives in Seattle, Washington.

 

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Elaine (Woodward) of Land O’ Lakes, Florida. Jim served in the Army National Guard for four years and retired from the Air Force after 21 years of Service. He served in Vietnam and Thailand. While in Thailand he transported children and their families for clef lip/palette surgery.

 

He was part of a dive team that salvaged treasures from sunken ships off the coast. He was a cross country truck driver. Jim also worked for SGS International (certified weights and measurements for fuel, etc.) at the port of entry.

 

One of Jim’s favorite times was when he and his family were stationed in Alaska for six years. He looked for gold (and found it), explored Alaska and took many beautiful pictures (including the Northern Lights.

 

Jim was an avid photographer which started when he was young and had a Brownie Camera.  He made many thousands of images.  Jim loved the Lord, family, church family, photography and cats.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Land O' Lakes on Saturday, the 8th of March. The viewing will be at 12:30 p.m. followed by the service at 1: 00 p.m.

 

Interment with Air Force Honors will be Monday, March 10, 2025 @ 11:30am at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.
