Sheila C. Coughlin

Sheila Carole Coughlin (nee Strobaugh), 92, of Turnersville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025. 

Legacy

She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She loved to be around her family, especially her grandchildren who brought her much joy. A devout Catholic with a strong faith, she enjoyed travelling, philosophy, art, and spending her summers at the Jersey Shore. She spent her career as a dedicated public servant to Gloucester County Social Services as a social worker and later administrator where she helped those who needed it most. She was active in her community of Washington Township, and along with her late husband Bill, she supported environmental efforts in town. Originally from Altoona, PA, Sheila was a trailblazer for her time - she was valedictorian of her high school class and the first person in her family to attend college - no small feat for a woman in the early 1950s. She graduated from Immaculata with a degree in Chemistry and attended Vassar. She was incredibly smart, a voracious reader, quick witted, and wise. She was always there for her family, who could count on her strong sensibilities, unwavering faith in God, and sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by many and while there is comfort in knowing she is now at peace with God, her passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who loved her that will never be filled. 

Family

She is the beloved wife of the late William Coughlin, Jr. Devoted mother of Kathleen M Gibson (Stephen), Julianne Valenti (Anthony), Christine Lane (Stan), Erin Ruggiero (Frank), Daniel Coughlin and the late William Coughlin III (Barbara).  Adored grandmother of Stephen (Ashley), Bernadette (Quinton), Joseph (Jenn), Anthony, Nicholas, William IV (Sarah), Mary Elizabeth, Matthew, Ryan (Jake), John (Hela), and Robert (Casey).  Treasured great grandmother of Will, Mia, Emma, Scottie, Archie, Eliana, and Luca.  Dear sister of Terence (Lois).  Predeceased by her parents Helen, and James Strobaugh.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday March 13th from 9:00AM to 10:00AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home - Washington Township, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ 08090.  Funeral Mass at 10:30AM at Ss.
