Victor D. Ortiz "Shorty"
July 28th, 1945 - March 2nd, 2025
Victor was born and grew up in South Tucson Arizona, his family was known for Ortiz Trucking. Victor’s education started at Ochoa elementary, Safford middle school on to Pueblo high school Eventually leaving early to join the military “Army” at just 18 years old he served 2 years overseas in Germany as an MP. Before leaving overseas, he met his soon to be Wife Jeanna C. Romero, and they were engaged. When he returned, they married, and he was hired as a welder’s apprentice at a steel factory. From there he was hired on at Anaconda Mine as a welder for 5 years. At that time the trucking business started really booming and he and his brothers decided to start Ortiz Brothers Trucking. In 1980 Victor and his wife Jeanne started Desert Demolition and Excavation. The company was well known all over Tucson AZ, especially South Tucson doing a lot of demos for the City of Tucson, Pima county, Tucson Airport authority and University of Arizona for its future housing and parking lot developments. A couple of the big demo jobs he was known for were the Apache drive in theatre and the original Maverick Bar. They ran the company for 35 years until 2015 when they retired, he also built duplexes all around south Tucson. He was known for his hard-working ethics and being outdoors Hunting and Fishing and we can’t forget he loved his classic cars, leaving one classic car to his son and each grandson and hanging out with his friends every Thursday evening at Little Mexico. Victor and Jeanne had 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Victor is Proceeded in death by his wife Jeanne C. Ortiz his parents Simon Escalante Ortiz and Jessie Ortiz, brother Mike Ortiz and one Angel Grandchild Victor Steven Ortiz Jr.
Victor is Survived By his son Victor S. Ortiz (Sandra Ortiz) Daughter Graceanne Ortiz Munoz (Armando Munoz) Daughter Christina Ortiz; Grandchildren Gabriel Ortiz, Victor Ortiz (Azaria Ortiz), Johnny Ortiz, Nicole Gamez (Juan Gamez), Simon Ortiz, Chianne Cuevas (Alejandro Cuevas). Great Grandchildren Xavier, Aiden, Alayna, Gabriel, Vanessa, Viviana, Kailani and Kruz.
