Robert L. Sprague, 83, of Hanahan, SC, previously of Livingston Manor, NY, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his great-grandchildren. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and loved celebrating their successes.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Christine Klauck; son-in-law, Darrell Klauck; grandchildren, Mary Polt, James and LeeAnna Klauck, and April and Stephen Riley; and great-grandchildren, Caleb Klauck, Devon Polt, Jacob Klauck, Landon Riley, Kayden Riley, Gage Polt, Micah Klauck, Vaida Riley, Violet Polt, Ashley Alfonso, and Isabella. He is also survived by many extended family members, including Jimmy, Teresa, and Jimmy Lee Powers; as well as his dear friend in Livingston Manor, NY, Rita McAuliffe. He leaves behind his cherished cat, Midnight.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Laura Squires Post; his brother, Willard Sprague; and his son, Mark Anthony Sprague.

Robert found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—music, movies, tending to his plants and flowers, birdwatching, and indulging in his favorite fast food. He also enjoyed the thrill of gambling, always ready to try his luck. Some of his most treasured experiences included a cruise to the Bahamas with his daughter and fulfilling a lifelong dream of visiting Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

Robert’s deep pride in his family, quick-witted sense of humor, and resilience in the face of adversity will be deeply missed but forever cherished. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, and togetherness.

A celebration of life will take place in the chapel at Coastal Community Church, 460 Arlington Drive, Charleston, on Friday, March 21 at 6:00 p.m. To reflect his signature style, attendees are encouraged to wear bright-colored, Hawaiian, or other fun, patterned shirts—just as Robert often did.

In honor of Robert’s memory, his family invites friends and loved ones to plant a tree in his name or make a donation to a local animal rescue organization.
