John Wayne Attaway
July 17th, 1936 - February 18th, 2025
John Wayne Attaway was born in Newberry, SC on July 17, 1936 to James and Carrie Attaway. He was the last survivor of five sisters and one brother. At sixteen years old, he joined the Air Force. He was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly retired after twenty years of service as a Tech Sargent to Sumter, SC, where he owned and operated a successful locksmith business and served the community as a volunteer firefighter.
In 1960, he married Mary Etta Antwine and in 1967 they adopted Loretta Lynn Attaway. Mary passed away in 1994. John enjoyed searching for Indian artifacts, coin collecting, traveling, amusement parks, country music and woodworking. In 1995, he met Luther Mae Christopher. They later married in 2007 and had many wonderful years together.
He is survived by his loving wife, Luther Mae Attaway as well as her children, Jack (Bernadette), Darrell (Shelia, her son and daughter, Christopher and Christina, and three grandchildren), Kelly, Sandra (Dale, their two children, Stephanie and Daniel, and two grandchildren). He was also survived by his daughter, Lynn Attaway (David, his sons, Bill and Jesse, and two grandchildren). Lastly, he was survived by "His Baby", Sissy the pug who was born on September 10th, 2011.
Per John's wishes, no services will be held.
