Lavetta Kay Williams, beloved wife, mother, grandma, and faithful servant of the Gospel of Christ, entered into her heavenly reward on March 6, 2025 in Sun City West, AZ at the age of 76. Lavetta was born to Herbert and Mary Ellen Lucas on March 8, 1948 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She graduated from Braman High School in 1966. Lavetta attended Central State University, where she played collegiate basketball and earned her degree in Education.

 

Lavetta married the love of her life, Johnny Ray Williams, on March 28, 1969, and they were happily married for 55 years. Lavetta was a dedicated homemaker, mother, Physical Education teacher, Reading Specialist and Basketball coach.  

 

Lavetta played basketball in high school, college and several post-college teams.  After raising her children, she became a P.E. teacher at Oakdale Public Schools and shared her love of basketball by coaching  middle school students for many years. When she learned how to play pickleball, she became an enthusiastic teacher of the game to people of all ages. In her retirement years, she treasured her time spent with friends fellowshipping and playing weekly games of cards and going to special events. Her contagious laugh and competitive spirit will be greatly missed.

 

Lavetta is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mary Ellen Lucas, and her brothers, Charles and Oren Lucas, and sister-in-law Linna Lucas. 

 

Lavetta is survived by her husband Johnny Ray Williams from Sun City West, AZ,  her daughter Angela Brough and her husband Trevor Brough, and their daughter Lacy Brough from Miami, Oklahoma, her son Kevin Williams and his wife Kim Williams and their children DJ Goldman, Jessica Evans, Logan Williams and Mallory Williams from Edmond, OK, her son Brian Williams and daughter Emillia Williams from Bentonville, Arkansas. and a host of other loving family and friends. 

 

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM (MST time) on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Surprise Church of Christ in Surprise, Arizona. Lavetta will be laid to rest at the Braman Cemetery in Braman, Oklahoma with a graveside service at a later date.
