Betty Randolph Smith
January 26th, 1935 - March 7th, 2025
Mrs. Betty Randolph Smith, age 90, of Hilton Head Island SC, died March 7, 2025. She was the daughter of Edmund William Randolph, Jr., and Myrna Butcher Randolph. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Ann Lee Randolph Peterson and her husband Commander (USN) John E. Peterson, and a brother E.W. Randolph III and his wife Kathryn.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years Robert S. Smith, sons Stuart R. Smith (Kathryn) of Downingtown, PA, Christopher B. Smith (Jennifer) of Randolph, NJ, and Andrew H. Smith (Anusha) of Drury, MO, and daughter Ann Whitney Coe of Ijamsville, MD, 7 grandchildren Brad Coe, Zachary Coe (Megan), Alexandra Smith, Mason Smith, Rachel Smith, Charles Smith, and Robert Rohan Smith, as well as great-grandchildren Wesley, Isla, and Sophie Coe. Special niece Sandy Mitchell (Chuck) lives in the Norfolk, VA area, as do several other cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Mrs. Smith grew up in Charleston, WV and attended both Mary Washington University and West Virginia University, after which she lived with her sister in Virginia Beach and worked as secretary to the commanding officer of Oceana Naval Air Station. She also worked for many years as a secretary in the Niskayuna, NY school district.
She was an active member of The Golf Club at Indigo Run and the Indigo Run Women’s Club. She played in several ladies’ bridge groups and usually won the pot.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Memory Matters in Hilton Head, SC.
