In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Ellie Murphy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She went home to be with the Lord on March 6th, 2025, at the age of 93.
Ms. Ellie, known for her warmth and kindness, was a devoted and active member of her church for many years. She loved God deeply and served in the church choir, where her beautiful voice filled the hearts of all who heard her sing. Music was a constant presence in her life, and she could often be found humming or singing hymns, a reflection of her faith and joy.
She was a cherished wife to her husband of 73 years, Oliver Murphy, with whom she shared a beautiful and full life. Together, they enjoyed traveling, including memorable trips like their journey to Ireland, and loved playing golf side by side. They were the epitome of a loving and enduring partnership.
Ms. Ellie also had a deep love for her family. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always finding joy in their presence. Her family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Known to all as “Ms. Ellie,” she had a remarkable gift of making friends wherever she went. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms. Her kindness, laughter, and love for others will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her love for family and faith, Ms. Ellie was a talented and creative soul. She enjoyed sewing and playing the piano, activities that brought her joy and allowed her to share her gifts with others. She also had a sweet tooth, particularly for mint chocolate chip ice cream, which was a favorite treat.
Ms. Ellie is survived by her loving husband, Oliver Murphy; daughter, Brenda Ratcliffe (Terry); grandchildren, Jennifer Troutman (Jamie), Brian Garrett (Julie), Stephanie Gwynn (Brian), Jeffery Murphy (Kirsten); great-grandchildren, Isabella Troutman, Brooklyn Troutman, Wesley Garrett, Conner Troutman, Curtis Garrett, Alexandria Gwynn, Laurel Troutman, and Eli Troutman; her brother, Harold Given; her niece, Katherine Martin; and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Macel Given; her son, Michael Murphy; and her two nephews, David and Douglas Given.
A celebration of Ms. Ellie’s life will be held at Triad Baptist Church, 1175 S Main St, Kernersville, NC 27284 on Saturday, April 5th, 2025 at 1:00PM with Pastor Rob Decker officiating. There will be a brief visitation period held 20 mins. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to American Cancer Society in her memory.
Ms. Ellie’s life was a testament to faith, love, and joy. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be remembered fondly for her unwavering faith, boundless love for her family, and the beautiful music she left behind.
