In Loving Memory

Kelly Brenna Luckey passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, after a six-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born on June 17, 1969, to Ruth Ann and Leonard Alan Brenna in River Falls, Wisconsin.  A 55 year-old resident of Scotts Valley, California, Kelly was a beloved mother, wife, and friend.Kelly was born and raised in River Falls, Wisconsin. She attended River Falls High School, where, to the surprise of no one, she was named Miss Congeniality. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, where she received a bachelor's degree in communications. Following college, Kelly moved to Eagan, Minnesota, where she worked for Northwest Airlines as a Supervisor of Customer Relations. She met her husband, Judd Luckey, there, and the two were married on May 23rd, 2003.A short time later, Kelly relocated to the Bay Area of California, where she worked in a variety of roles, and developed a deep love for the California coast and the ocean. She became a mother on March 4th, 2005, with the birth of her first son, Jack Bradley, who was born prematurely and passed away after only a week.Kelly and Judd later adopted their son, Benjamin Cooper, in July of 2008, and relocated to Scotts Valley, California, located in the Santa Cruz mountains, and to Kelly’s delight, a mere 10 minutes from the beach. While raising Benjamin, Kelly became a substitute teacher at the local elementary school, Vine Hill Elementary. She discovered that she had a real talent for teaching and a great love for nurturing children. For several years, she became a favorite of local students, who loved it when she would appear in their classroom. She maintained some of those relationships up to her death. For her entire life, Kelly had an unparalleled ability to develop deep and abiding friendships wherever she went. Her husband once commented that Kelly needed a hobby, to which she replied, “People are my hobby.” This is the plain and honest truth. Over many years, Kelly has created and maintained an amazing number of friendships, and in each case, she has connected her friends with each other, forming loving communities of people. She was, in a very real sense, the “glue” that brought people together.Kelly is survived by her husband, Judd Luckey, her son, Benjamin Luckey, her mother, Ruth Ann Teppen, and countless friends that love her dearly.A celebration of her life will be held at Mount Hermon (37 Conference Drive, Felton, CA) on March 30th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (www.komen.org).Kelly was a beacon of light, and that light endures in each one of the people she touched during her amazing life. She has left a legacy of love in her community and her memory will shine brightly.
