Dick Lovett, 83, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025. Born in Kingstree, South Carolina, Dick was the son of George James “Deedy” Lovett, Sr., and Adell Ward “Mickey” Lovett and the husband of Wilna Wylie Lovett.

An all-star athlete at Kingstree High School, Dick attended Erskine College where he played baseball and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Wilna. Together, they began their careers teaching and coaching in Due West, South Carolina, and formed a loving union that would span the next six decades.

Dick had a successful career in human resources, holding a variety of positions in locations across the United States, always with Wilna by his side and invariably making friends and cherished memories in places like Ware Shoals, SC; Raeford, NC; Rock Hill, SC; Albemarle, NC; Kansas City, KS; Allentown, PA; and New York City, NY.  After concluding his full-time career, Dick continued to consult for his former employer.

Following Dick’s retirement, he and Wilna settled Beaufort, South Carolina, a location that brought them closer to their family and beloved grandchildren. While remaining busy with a management role in their Bull Point neighborhood and as an active member of the Presbyterian Church, Dick was also able to pursue his passion for hunting and fishing, often with his brother, Tommy. For Dick, these activities offered the double blessing of connecting with nature while spending time with people he cared about.

More recently, Dick assumed his greatest and most important role as caregiver for Wilna in her battle against Alzheimer’s Disease. As always, he was dedicated, courageous, and unwavering in his support for his cherished wife.

Dick will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for his charming and infectious smile, his wonderful sense of humor that often took the form of memorable stories, and most of all, his ability to lift up and encourage the people around him.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife; his son, Tim Lovett (Carson Bruce); his daughter, Beth Lovett (David Stickel); his grandchildren, Henry and Olivia Lovett; his sister, Linda Lovett Parker; his brother, Tommy (Lynne) Lovett and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Charlie) McElveen; and his brother, Henry Lovett.

A church service will be held at 2:00, March 15 at the Presbyterian Community Chapel at 201 W 9th N St, Summerville, SC. Memorials can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/ or Lowcountry Land Trust https://lowcountrylandtrust.org/.
