Howard Raymond Poindexter, Jr.

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of my father Howard Raymond Poindexter Jr., age 80, on March 3, 2025, at Novant Presbyterian Hospital where he passed due to pancreatic cancer. 

Born on July 31, 1944 in Newport News, Virgina. He resided in Charlotte,  North Carolina. Howard was a cherished husband, father, brother, and uncle whose kindness, humor, and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His heart was always full of love, and his presence was a blessing to his family and friends.

Howard is survived by his devoted daughter; Mandy Caudill (Shane), his sister Debra Jean Williams and grandchildren Tyler and Jaxon Gragg. Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vickie Moore Poindexter; and sisters, JoAnn Poindexter Todd and Margaret Poindexter Craver (Peggy); and sister-in-law, Kay Moore Nussman. He also has many nieces and nephews.

He is also lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law, Robert Thomas Nussman, Jr, along with his cherished nephews; Chad Nussman (and his wife, Ashleigh, and their two children) and David Nussman (and his wife, Erin, and their two children). In addition to his immediate family.  Howard served in the navy. He worked and retired from AT&T. 

He enjoyed fishing at Lake Tillery, family vacations at Blowing Rock, bowling, working on taxes, and trips with friends.  Howard’s legacy lives on in the hearts of many who will always remember his laughter, his unwavering support, and the love he gave so freely. As we say goodbye to a man whose life was filled with grace, kindness, laughter, and love, we find comfort knowing that his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Howard’s memory will forever be remembered, and he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

May he rest in eternal peace.
