Scott "SG" Gregory Gillen
December 16th, 1963 - February 18th, 2025
I started my career to change the world, and the world ended up changing me.
Scott Gregory Gillen, known to many as SG, passed away on February 18th, 2025, at the age of 61, surrounded by those who loved him most. He was born on December 16th, 1963, in San Mateo, California, to parents June and Gerard Gillen. Scott was the middle child of three with an older brother, Glenn, and a younger sister, Gayle.
As a young child, Scott's family moved from California to New Jersey, where he grew up before eventually relocating to Arizona. It was in Arizona that Scott met his future wife, Veronica. They married in 1994 and settled in Oracle, Arizona, where they raised their daughter, Madison. In 2002, Madison was born on August 14th, bringing immeasurable joy to their lives. She was the light of Scott's world and he adored her deeply.
Scott's professional journey was one of dedication and service. He entered law enforcement and rose through the ranks to become the commander of the SWAT team in Pinal County, as well as a detective. His career continued as he served as the Chief of Police in Hayden, Arizona, and later in Miami, Arizona, where he eventually retired. Throughout his career, Scott was known for his strong leadership, courage, and deep commitment to his community. He often reflected on his path with the words, “I started my career to change the world, and the world ended up changing me.” These words captured the essence of Scott's experience - a man who entered law enforcement with the goal of making a difference, only to be transformed by the very work he loved.
In 2014, Scott and Veronica decided to part ways. In 2021, SG met his beloved partner, Patricia, while working as a detective for the Gila County Attorney's Office. Their bond brought Scott great joy and companionship in his later years.
Scott was also deeply loved by his four-legged companions, Rylie, Kono, and Charlie, who were by his side until the very end. These loyal friends brought him comfort and unconditional love.
SG is survived by his daughter, Madison; his partner, Patricia; his siblings, Glenn and Gayle; and many other family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives were touched by his generosity, sense of humor, and optimism for the situations that surrounded him.
A memorial service to honor Scott's life will be held on March 24th, 2025, at 2:00pm at Adair Funeral Home in Oro Valley, Arizona (8090 N. Northern Ave, Oro Valley, AZ 85704).
Scott will be remembered as a loving father, a dedicated professional, and a friend to many. His legacy of service, compassion, and love for his family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Scott will be forever remembered as a “simple man.”
Rest in peace, SG. Your memory will never be forgotten.
