Cecil Dewayne Burnett, age 90, passed away on March 8, 2025, at Sunny Ridge Assisted Living. He was born on March 28, 1934, in Homedale, Idaho, to James William and Clara Marietta Burnett. Cecil grew up in Homedale and graduated from Homedale High School. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army Honor Guard in Washington, D.C., where he met the love of his life, Elaine Marie Norman. The two were married on March 10, 1956, beginning a partnership built on love, family, and hard work. Shortly after their wedding, Cecil and Elaine moved to Parkersburg, West Virginia, where they started their family, welcoming two children: Emma Louise and Bill Burnett. During this time, Cecil worked at the O. Ames Company, where he helped manufacture shovels. In 1963, the Burnett family returned to Homedale, Idaho, where Cecil started his own construction business and built a life centered around family and commitment to his business. In 1975, he fulfilled his dream by purchasing a farm in the Bend area near Adrian, Oregon. For a time he raised hogs and grew crops on his land. He found great joy in gardening, often sharing his homegrown produce with neighbors and friends. A skilled plastering and masonry contractor, Cecil worked on dairy barns across Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. His dedication to his craft never wavered, and he continued working throughout his life—never retiring. More than anything, Cecil cherished time with his family. He especially loved working alongside his son and five of his grandsons, passing down his knowledge and strong work ethic to future generations. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Burnett, two brothers, Jimmy and Albert, and five sisters, Irene, Pauline, Patricia, Betty, and Varnetta. Cecil is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Elaine, his daughter Emma (Curt) Petersen, his son Bill (Sherri) Burnett, 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Flahiff Funeral Home in Homedale, Idaho. A visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at noon and burial at Homedale-Marsing Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
