Mary Claire Bryan
March 6th, 1951 - February 28th, 2025
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Claire Bryan, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on February 28, 2025, in Tacoma, Washington. Born on March 6, 1951, in Dixon, Illinois, Mary was a cherished soul whose life beautifully embodied kindness, humor, and a deep love for the natural world.
Educated at Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling, Illinois, she graduated with the class of 1968. Mary devoted her professional life to a diverse career in bookkeeping and accounting. Her colleagues remember her as an astute professional and a selfless individual who always prioritized the needs of others.
Mary was a pillar of strength and love within her family. She is survived by her son, Andrew Bryan of Olympia, Washington, her daughter, Kristin Flores of Phoenix, Arizona, her brothers, Ed Bushman of Dixon, Illinois, and John Bushman of Naperville, Illinois, and her cherished granddaughter, Juniper, with whom she had numerous adventures chasing fairies in the forest. Her beloved husband, Gerald H. Bryan, whom she married in 1975, predeceased her, along with her parents, Francis Bushman and Lucille Kime, and siblings, James Bushman, Denny Bushman, and Maggie Crawford.
Mary’s life was enriched by her love for animals and the great outdoors. She could often be found walking in the woods or enjoying the company of her many furry and feathered companions who adored her. Mary always put the needs of others before her own. She was an endless well of music and joy, transforming everyday words into songs both real and imagined. She played a mean game of Rummikub and left a lasting impression not just through her victories but through the joy she found in playing games with friends near and far.
Friends and family are invited to honor Mary’s memory by donating to a local animal shelter or the ASPCA at aspca.org, an expression fitting for a woman whose heart nurtured so many of Earth's creatures.
Mary Claire Bryan leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, of selflessness and strength, a testament to a life lived fully and shared generously with those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all.
