Carter-Trent Funeral Homes - Kingsport
Robert Lane Carter
June 19th, 1932 - March 12th, 2025
Robert Lane Carter, known to many as "Bob," peacefully went to be with the Lord at his home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. He was a member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church and a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 39 in Bluff City, Tennessee. Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he honorably defended his country.
Bob's love for his family and his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his son, Steven Carter and his wife, Martha; his grandchildren, Annette Carter, Amira Byrd, Nekesha Williams, Layne Carter, and Marcus Carter; along with several great-grandchildren who brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Louise Carter, and his son, Marcus (Rusty) Carter and his wife Robin Carter. He was also predeceased by his parents and other family members. Bob shared a special friendship with Raymond and Pam Ward, June McCracken and Danny Kent, who were a constant source of companionship and support.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mountain Home VA, Amedisys, and Cornerstone Healthcare for the loving care they provided Bob during his final months.
Friends and family are invited to honor Bob’s memory at a visitation Friday, March 14 from 12pm to 1 pm at Carter-Trent Funeral Home – Kingsport with a funeral service to follow at 1pm with Rev. Steven Beckett officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 14 at 3pm at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park, with honors conducted by DAV Chapter 39. His grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers, a testament to the deep affection they held for him. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to DAV Chapter 39 in Bluff City, TN, an organization that was close to Bob’s heart.
Bob will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith, service, and love will remain with all who knew him.
