Alan Dean Jacobs
March 3rd, 1948 - March 7th, 2025
Alan Dean Jacobs, born on March 3, 1948, to Ben and Dorothy Jacobs in Aberdeen, Washington, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in Olympia, Washington. After being released from the hospital in November of 2024, Alan was sent to a Rehabilitation center for a short stay and developed sepsis. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Alan is survived by his devoted wife, Sharlon Brehmeyer-Schoening Jacobs, whom he married in December of 2011, his son Christopher Alan Jacobs (Courtney), his daughter Andrea Keary (Terril) and his cherished grandchildren Anika Hicks, Jake Keary (Kristine), and Justin Alexander Jacobs. Alan also leaves behind great-grandchildren Auroa Jean Hicks and Jayson Hicks, who brought him immense joy. As well as special sister-in-law Susan Brehmeyer Hibbert.
Alan's educational journey began in his hometown, where he graduated from Weatherwax High School in the class of 1966. He then furthered his studies at Grays Harbor College in 1968, before earning his degree from the University of Washington in 1970, an institution that he remained passionately connected to throughout his life as an avid football fan and season ticket holder.
His career was marked by dedicated service in senior human resource positions for the state agencies of Employment Security and Ecology. Alan served at Employment Security for two decades and concluded his professional journey with a fulfilling tenure at the Department of Ecology, from which he retired.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alan was a man of varied interests and passions. He was a vibrant presence in bowling leagues and slow-pitch games, and his skill at the poker table was well-known until the pandemic put a halt to such gatherings. Retirement opened up a new chapter of exploration and adventure for Alan, as he indulged in his love for travel. His journeys took him across the globe, from the historic landscapes of England and the vibrant cultures of Australia, Figi and Tasmania to the picturesque vistas of Italy, France, and Egypt. More recently, he found joy in cruising the scenic regions of Alaska and the California coast.
Alan also developed a refined taste for spirits, wines, and fine dining, which he explored with enthusiasm and shared generously with friends and family alike. This appreciation for the finer things in life was just one of many ways he expressed his love and zest for living.
A funeral Mass will be held for Alan on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Noon at St. Michael Parish in Olympia, Washington, located at 1055 Boundry St SE. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and to share in the memories of a man who touched many lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit.
Alan Dean Jacobs will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of love and laughter will endure in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
