Stephen L. Cate, 84, of Englewood, Fl., formerly of Scituate, Ma., steered peacefully to his next deployment on March 10, 2025.  Born to Earl and Barbara (Hayes)Cate as one of five boys, raised in Melrose, Ma. and predeceased by all but his baby brother Norman.  He joined the Navy at 17 and was honorably discharged after 4 years.  In 1963, married the love of his life Dorothy Forward and soon after came his own family that they raised in Scituate, Ma while he worked at the Boston Globe (a 38 year career). Throughout his life he was a magnet, pulling together his people: from family and friends to complete strangers. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy and survived by his children Earl(Joanne), Elizabeth(Michael) and Barbara(Neil) as well as 10 Grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, many Nieces and Nephews and countless friends.  Funeral arrangements by: Englewood Community Funeral Home, Inc. with Private Crematory.  Celebration of life at the Lock and Key in Englewood, Fl in March and at his former Scituate, Ma home in August.
