James "Junior" William Varner, Jr.
December 26th, 1946 - February 18th, 2025
"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want...Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." Psalm 23
James William Varner, Jr., 78, passed away on February 18, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida. Born on December 26, 1946, to James and Edna Varner in Winter Haven Florida. He attended local schools and graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1965. James honorably served in the U.S. Navy and shortly after married his wife of 56 years, Alice Pippin. He began a career with the Department of Agriculture as a fruit and vegetable inspector before co-owning and managing National Discount Transmission with his father.
James was a godly man, involved in several congregations throughout his life, including Cypress Cathedral, Lake Wales Assembly of God, Gateway Assembly, and most recently, New Hope Fellowship in Auburndale. His commitment to his faith was evident to all he came in contact with.
An inherited love for gospel music marked James’ leisure time; he enjoyed singing and playing the piano and keyboard. He was an avid Buccaneers and Dolphins fan and enjoyed watching football games with family and friends.
James is survived by his wife, Alice Varner, daughter Rachel Drake and son-in-law Anton, sister-in-law Mila Varner, brother-in-law Larry Pippin and wife Elouise, and a loving extended family of several nieces, nephews, an aunt, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Varner Sr. and Edna Varner, his brother Henry Varner, and sister Beverly Varner.
