Agnes Carol Grubbs Bowman, 80, of Columbia, passed away at home, on March 14, 2025, after a long illness. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she entered the gates of heaven. Carol, as she was known, was born on September 5, 1944, in Columbia, SC to the late George W and Iris Grubbs. She was the fifth of nine children.

She grew up in Columbia and attended Columbia High School.  She loved music, playing the piano and singing. She was a huge Country Music fan, especially George Jones. Carol liked to watch old Westerns and WWE wrestling. When technology became the norm, she made friends from all over through Facebook. She would spend hours playing games on her tablet and watching YouTube videos. She had a quick wit, a beautiful smile and a heart for Jesus.

She is survived by her children; daughter, Nancy Pilat-Renner and son, James F. Pilat, Jr.; two grandchildren; Jordan Renner and Lauren Finnegan (Michael) and five great-grandchildren: Greysen Renner, Landon Renner, Naomi Finnegan, Olivia Finnegan and Paul Michael Finnegan. She will be greatly missed by her constant companion and fur-grandbaby, Max. Carol was pre-deceased by a daughter, Julie Ann Pilat.  Carol is also survived by her siblings: Lavern Grubbs (Mary Jane,) Joyce Hicks, Roger Grubbs and Wanda Wessinger. She was predeceased by brothers: George C. Grubbs, Owens

Grubbs, Marshall Grubbs and Edward "Butch" Grubbs. She was loved by many nieces and nephews.

Carol was a long-time employee of Providence Hospital, currently known as MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown, where she retired after 26 years of service.

The family would like to thank the following:

Mrs. Keisha Larry and Mrs. Ruby Richardson, both with Grace Caregivers, for the love and care they showed our mother. She loved you both dearly.

We would also like to thank Amedisys Hospice for the help they provided as mama approached the end of her life.

Most importantly, the family would like to thank Dr. Martha Parker Hester, MD, who provided medical care to our mama for many years. Mama loved her and was so proud of her, “doctor.”

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025,  at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169.  Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall with a Graveside Service to follow at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to one of the following charities:

Homeward Bound Pet Rescue, PO Box 4335, Irmo, SC 29063 or online at https://www.homewardboundrescuesc.com/donate
