Betz, Rossi Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home - Amsterdam
Jack J. Jowett
July 22nd, 1954 - March 15th, 2025
Jack J. Jowett passed away suddenly at home on March 15, 2025. A spirited 70 years young, he was the son of the late J. Vincent Jowett and Helen Sample Jowett of Tribes Hill, NY.
Born on July 22,1954 he grew up in Tribes Hill and graduated from Bishop Scully High School in Amsterdam. He later earned a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Geography & Environmental Science from SUNY Plattsburgh.
He dedicated his career to serving the public, with 27 years of service in the NY State Emergency Management Office from which he retired in 2009.
After his retirement from NYS Service, he continued his efforts working with NEMA training staff to effectively execute interstate aid during natural disasters and other state or national emergencies.
Jack’s leadership extended far beyond New York as he was involved in NEMA activities since 1985 serving as an assistant to the NY State Emergency Management Director. He worked diligently and selflessly to provide aid for those in need through many natural disasters and emergencies during his career. Most notably the response efforts after 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.
Jack was a truly respectful, perceptive and empathetic person. Fully dedicated to standing up and speaking up for fairness, he was always working toward the greater good for all. He found joy in the simple things - sitting outside in the sun, enjoying real maple syrup, cooking for friends and family, fishing, hunting, genealogy, sharing the harvest from his garden or a pint and a laugh. Effortlessly himself, Jack loved to entertain everyone with his life stories and jokes while frequenting local restaurants and breweries. He felt music deeply and was a skilled banjo player. He proudly passed his love of music on to his children. Jack was a devoted father, son, brother and friend to many.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darla Jowett of Selkirk, NY; his children Brian V. Jowett of Charleston, SC and Moira E. Jowett of Albany, NY and their mother Joyce Jowett of Clifton Park, NY; his stepson Christopher Johnson of Mays Landing, NJ. Also survived by sisters Susan Romsiewicz (Leo) of Kennesaw, GA; Patricia Jowett of Syracuse, NY; Anne Gold (Andy) of White Plains, NY, four nephews, two nieces, two great nieces, two great nephews, a step-grandson and countless friends.
A calling hour for Jack will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 12noon until 1pm, where a prayer service and sharing of memories will be held at 1pm at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.
