Nancy Pusser Burgess
November 15th, 1931 - March 4th, 2025
Nancy Pusser Burgess, of Charlotte, then Matthews NC died March 4th, 2025 at 93 years of age. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be April 21st, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Mrs. Burgess was born November 15, 1931, in Greensboro, daughter of the late Margie Perry Pusser and Henry Wilson Pusser. She grew up in Chesterfield SC, and received her BA and MA degrees from Winthrop University. She taught in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System for 27 years. A seventy-one year member of St. John's Baptist Church, she served four decades as a Sunday School teacher, was active in many areas of service, and was an ordained deacon. She enjoyed music, flower arranging, bridge, sewing, craft class at church, serving on the Hospitality House Board, Bible study groups, traveling, and entertaining. She was a breast cancer survivor of more than thirty years. She loved her family dearly and did everything she could for her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She cherished many dear friends from all ages of her life. Her devotion to God and His word were the underlying strengths of her life.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Melinda Burgess Fuller and Dr. James S. Fuller of West Hartland CT; son and daughter-in-law Jonathan Burgess and Dr. Julianna Cruse Burgess of Boone NC; grandchildren Ted Fuller (My), Nancy Fuller (Justin), Jane Fuller (Greg), Elyse Burgess, and Luke Burgess; great grandchildren Clementine Quinn, Quentin Harrier, Genevieve Drenzek, Violet Harrier, and Jake Drenzek; sister-in-law Joan Pusser of Savannah GA, brother-in-law Wayne Burgess of Wake Forest NC, sister-in-law Gina Burgess of Bluffton SC, and twelve nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings William, Rance, and Ellen; husband O. N. (Ned) Burgess, Jr.; and granddaughter Hadley Starr Fuller.
Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Nancy Burgess to the Building Fund, St. John's Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204; to the American Cancer Society; or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association specified for Spinal Muscular Atrophy since her granddaughter Hadley had SMA; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Interment in the Memory Garden at St. John's will be private and held at another time.
