William "Whitey" Raymond Merten, Sr.
June 9th, 1936 - March 16th, 2025
William Raymond Merten, Sr., “Whitey”, 88, of Hilton Head Island, died Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Ridgeland Nursing Center.
The Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:00am in St. Peter’s Historic Catholic Church, 710 Carteret St., Beaufort, SC, 29902.
Mr. Merten was born on June 9, 1936 in Newark, NJ.
He is survived by his three children, Deborah Merten of Port Royal, SC, William Raymond Merten, Jr. of New Providence, NJ and Robert (Les Harding) Merten of Beaufort, SC; two grandchildren, Carmine and Michele and three great grandchildren Madison, Micaela and Michael. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Catherine Merten in 2017 and one son, Michael in 1988.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Family Services of Greater Beaufort, P.O. Box 1514, Beaufort, SC, 29901.
