Thomas Carl Wilfert
July 21st, 1939 - March 8th, 2025
Thomas Carl Wilfert, age 85, passed away on March 8 in his hometown of Gilbert. Tom is survived by his wife, Brenda Wilfert; one brother, Bob Wilfert; two sons, Russ and Greg; two daughters-in-law, Cindy and Julie; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Tom was born in Lexington, Kentucky and he moved with his family to the Valley in 1946. Tom graduated from North High School and then joined the Air Force Reserves. He graduated from Arizona State University and raised his family in the same north Phoenix area where he grew up. Tom used his radar technician experience from the Air Force to become one of the earliest software engineers in the sixties. He went on to have a successful career at Motorola, retiring in 1996. His first wife Ardis passed away in 2011. Tom married Brenda, also from Lexington, in 2013.
Tom enjoyed model airplanes, electronics, computers, and sleep. He was a handy man and problem solver who enjoyed helping others.
A small celebration of life party is planned for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley. Special thanks to Brenda’s daughter, Leigh Adams, for all her help with Tom’s home care.
