Shirley was born on January 10, 1936, in New Richland, MN, to Olaf and Leona (Heckes) Halvorson. Shirley fought a courageous battle with Dementia and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 16, 2025. She was 89.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Karen Chavez; brothers Burton (Joyce) and Jerome Halvorson; sisters and their husbands: Marie Halvorson, Betty and Howard Nelson; Genelle and Leonard Stuckey; brothers-in-law: Rol lie Peterson and Glen Graham.

She is survived by her son, Scott Anderson of California; daughters Janet (Russ) Qualkenbush of Shoals, IN; and Jackie (Don) Waller of California. Surviving sisters: Linda Graham of Alaska, Barbara Peterson of Colorado, and SIL Joyce Halvorson of Albert Lea, MN.

Shirley had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild in CA. She also had nieces and nephews in MN, CA, AR, CO, TX, and AK.

She retired as a teacher’s aide, teaching English as a second language, and did volunteer work at Santa Teresita Hospital in CA. She loved flowers, dogs, chocolate, giraffes, her art, and painting.

Shirley lived most of her life in California, then her sisters moved her to Colorado in 2020 to be closer to family.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting her. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers or contributions, Shirley would like you to do a random act of kindness for a stranger.
