William "Alex" Alexander Simpson

William Alexander (Alex) Simpson, beloved brother, uncle, and son, died November 8, 2018, in Evans, Colorado. He was born July 15, 1967, in Detroit, Michigan, to Eileen McKinnon-Suggs and Samuel Alexander Simpson, who called him his "little truck driver.” He attended school in Port Huron, Michigan, and Grand Bend, Ontario, and graduated from Gladwin High School in Michigan. He lived in Utah for a time and settled in Greeley, Colorado. He was deeply loved by his stepdad, Daniel Lee Suggs, who preceded him in death. Alex succeeded in everything he tried, across many industries, including sales, over-the-road trucking, and insurance claims. He especially enjoyed working with Veterans through USAA. He left his mark on everyone he met through humor, teasing, and his great desire to serve—often sacrificing his own dreams to make sure others were cared for. He was a true romantic, with a deep love of his country, music, and people—always willing to take on a fight for the underdog. He spent many years searching for healing and peace, but ultimately lost his battle with depression and alcoholism. He is survived by his mother, Eileen, of Salt Lake City, Utah; his stepmother, Barbara Simpson of Oak Park, Michigan; and his siblings Deborah (Jack) Wingard of Smith Creek, Michigan, Sondra (Tim) Harrison of Hartland, Michigan, James (Lynda) Merrill of Lake Orion, Michigan, Shauna Bona (Bob Sobocinski) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Angela (Chuck) Drumright of Evans, Colorado, and Merrill (Brian) Landt of Hatfield, Pennsylvania. He is uncle to six nieces and seven nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and stepdad, his brother Fred Merrill, and a nephew, Joseph Behunin. A graveside service will be held in Benjamin, Utah, on November 24, 2018. Contact the family for details.
