Carrie Joyce Avant (Wilkerson) entered eternal rest on March 17, 2025. Joyce was born on April 22, 1944, in Charleston, SC. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Hubert Bennett Avant, Sr.; her sisters, Janet Byrd, Jean Carson, and Joan Murdaugh; her daughter, Edwina Avant Mataro, and son-in-law, Anthony Mataro; her son, Ben Avant; her grandchildren, Lindsay Wigginton (and family), Pierce Richardson (and family), Max Avant, Andrew Avant (and family), Olivia Chewning (and family), Alex Avant (and family), and Kara Avant; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Allison (Al) D. Avant. Joyce dedicated her career as a nurse at the VA hospital until her retirement in 1979. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family. Joyce was unwavering in her loyalty to her loved ones and always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.

Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Ravenel (5987 SC-165, Ravenel, SC 29470) on March 29,2025 at 11am. Visitation will be from 10-11am. Flowers can be sent directly to the church. There will be a luncheon after the service in the church social hall.
