Raymond Carl “Ray” Reinke, beloved father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 15th, 2025, at the age of 71. Born to Kenneth Reinke and Shirley Sandvig on May 30th, 1953, Ray was one of nine siblings. His life was marked by a deep love for family, friends, and the passions that brought him joy.
A proud veteran, Ray served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany where he made lasting memories. He had a deep sense of duty and commitment, and that carried on to his career, which began in 1975 at The Milwaukee Railroad, where he gained the nickname “Razor”, and worked until his retirement. Ray was known for his dedication, hardworking nature, and a sharp sense of humor that left an impression on everyone he met.
Outside of work, Ray had a wide range of interests that reflected his vibrant and eclectic personality. He was a lifelong Star Trek enthusiast, a devoted NASCAR fan, and could often be found at the North Saint Paul car show on summer Fridays, showcasing his love for classic cars. A talented woodworker, Ray had a creative eye and a knack for craftmanship.
Ray's love for life extended to his diverse collection of hobbies. He was an avid reader with a vast book collection that he generously shared with others. His love of film knew no bounds - whether it was Disney, sci-fi, rom-coms, action films or classics, Ray appreciated them all. He also enjoyed watching certain reality shows - Big Brother, The Amazing Race and Survivor were among his favorites.
A lifelong Minnesota sports fan, Ray cheered on his home teams with passion and pride - especially the Vikings. He also had a deep love for country music and he was a proud collector of memorabilia, specifically wolves, Harleys, and Elvis items.
One of Ray's greatest loves was for animals. Over the years, he opened his heart and his home to numerous dogs and cats, each one holding a special place in his heart. His home was a place of warmth and compassion, both for his furry friends and for the people lucky enough to have known him.
Ray was known for his generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand or offer his talents. His down-to-earth nature, great sense of humor, and ability to make friends wherever he went, are just a few of the reasons he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ray was a loving son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Ray's legacy will be carried on by those who knew and loved him. Ray is survived by his siblings - Linda Paul, Phyllis Worrell, Ed Reinke, Carol (Jon) Eklof, Janet (Robert) Maughan, Darlene (Geo) Johnson, and Fred (Jan) Syrdal, his children Kari (Kevin) Heimer, Paul Reinke, Kimberly (Ray) Valles, and Alek Sorenson, his grandchildren Andrew, Rosaria, and Cora, his great-grandchildren Alice and Raiden, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray will also be remembered by his lifelong friends Jerry Walton and Jack Wrich, whose friendships were a source of joy, comfort, many beers, even more laughs, and countless memories over the years. Their friendship was a source of great happiness in his life. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Kenneth Reinke and Shirley Sandvig, his stepfather Russell Sandvig, his brother Ken Reinke, his brother-in-law Pat Worrell, and his wives Christy and MK.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held on Friday, May 30th, which is also his birthday. Please join us at the North Saint Paul VFW from 4 - 7PM to honor and remember him. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family.
Ray's legacy of love, humor, generosity and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is gone, he will never be forgotten.
