Memorial

Hilda Marie Messinger was born in Oahu, Hawaii on September 13, 1928 to Frank and Theresa Camacho.

She passed away at her son's residence in Ruther Glen, Virginia on March 6, 2025 at the age of 96 years old.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel Haggart Sr. of Freeport, Pennsylvania on December 27, 1972 after marrying on March 26, 1944.  She remarried on December 2, 1978 to Raymond Messinger of Magalia, California who passed away in March 2004 due to Parkinson disease.

Hilda was the last of six siblings of 3 brothers and 3 sisters.  Hilda had two sons, Daniel Haggart Jr. and Clifford Haggart who passed away in October of 1996.  Hilda was proud to have 3 granddaughters, 9 great-grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren.

With only a 7th grade education, she was part of history having lived through the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.  For those who knew her, she would tell the story over and over how she can remember the pilot of the Japanese Zero pilot grinning at her as he was trying to strafe her while she was playing in her back yard that Sunday morning.

Hilda was an active member of the Magalia, California community for years. She sang in the Paradise choir and was an active member of St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church.  Hilda took great pride in her involvement with the Red Hat Women's group and enjoyed her charitable projects.  She loved to work in her yard and enjoyed a lively game of cards or Dominos with friends. After the Camp Fire in Paradise, California, in November 2018, she went to live with her loving family in Virginia in February, 2019.

A viewing to be held at Brusie Funeral Home on March 27, 2025 with a private graveside service for family and friends to follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Cemetery.
