Robert Templeton

Robert Templeton, 82, passed away on March 14, 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born in Harvey, Illinois, on January 20, 1943, he grew up in St. John, Indiana, where he developed a lifelong passion for working on cars while working as a teenager in a service station on route 41.

After graduating from Dyer Central High School, Robert attended Tri-State University and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. His love for automobiles and problem-solving led to a 30+ year career at General Motors in Lansing, Michigan, where he was known for his dedication and expertise.

Beyond his professional life, Robert had a gift for fixing just about anything and an unwavering willingness to help his family, friends and community. Whether it was lending a hand to a friend in need or serving his community as Williamstown Township Supervisor for eight years, he lived by a personal guiding principal, “it’s what you do for others that matters most”.  No matter the situation, he never lost his sense of humor, bringing laughter and warmth to those around him.

Robert is survived by his beloved children, Sarah (Scott) Phillips and John (Erika) Templeton; his grandchildren, Tyler Phillips, Allyson Phillips, Adrian Templeton, and Marco Templeton; his sister, Linda Haggerty(Al ) and his loving companion, Florencia Lazaro.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Brown (Holst) Templeton; his parents, Alvin Templeton and Dorothy Templeton; his sisters, Mary Kasher and Shirley Templeton; and his brother, James Templeton.

Robert's legacy is one of service, hard work, kindness, and laughter.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A funeral mass will be held at 10am on April 12th at St. Mary's Cathedral, 219 Seymour Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48933 with a Celebration of Life reception following.
