Nancy Ann Kane
July 14th, 1936 - March 15th, 2025
Nancy was passionate about being “Mom” to everyone
Nancy Ann (LaPage) Kane passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 at the age of 88,surrounded by all 7 of her children as well as some grandchildren. Nancy was born on July 14,1936 and grew up in Bremerton, Washington, spending her young life amidst her own loving family, her beloved Olympic Mountain range, and as many farm and domesticated animals as she could get her hands on.
She was a very active 4H member and leader for many years, then graduated from Bremerton High and moved to Seattle, where she met her husband, Warren Kane. Warren and Nancy were married on April 14th, 1958 and remained married for 64 years when Warren passed away on March 21, 2022. They had 7 children together, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. They spent many happy years together raising their family, working hard, attending St. Marks Parish in North Seattle, hiking, camping, retiring and then traveling together. In addition to being a wife, professional, grandmother, friend, and sister,
Nancy was passionate about being “Mom” to everyone, including those she worked with, went to school with, all of her children’s friends - absolutely everyone had a seat at her dinner table any night of the week! The mountains, woods, hiking, and the coast were her happy place. She loved the solitude of going it alone but also loved leading groups of folks with backpacks into nature in the hopes that everyone would learn to love it as much as she did. She had a distinctive affinity for bears; she came across them often on her trips and taught others to not fear her beautiful furry friends. You could hear her coming a mile away on any trail, clapping her hands and singing her bear songs. Nancy loved to while away some time every day reading, drinking coffee, and indulging her sweet tooth. She was quite the prolific writer and wrote a legacy of beautiful children’s stories and an archive of nature journals, memoir prose, and poetry.
Nancy is survived by her children: Kathleen Knifong, Maureen Hyzer (Steve), Karen Kane, Laureen Kane, Merriann Kane, Edward Kane (Grace), and Annamarie Peters (Dan), Grandchildren Kevin John, Kelsey Fenner (Keith), Justin John (Alex), Kane Peters, and Sophie Knifong, and great grandchildren Brady and Mack Fenner, and Hannah John.
