Jerry Lee Long, 54, of Gaston, South Carolina, passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 19, 2025. Born on July 2, 1970, to the late Bruce and Hermine Long, Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and friend who valued loyalty and dedication.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marianne Long. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend,Shelby Barfield-Long, with whom he shared 13 years of marriage and a love story that began on March 15, 2011. Together, they built a beautiful family and were blessed with four cherished children: Landon, Sydni, Logan, and Mia Long.

In addition to his wife and children, Jerry is survived by his son from a previous marriage to Tracey Cook, Dennis Brandon Long (Katelyn Joanides), as well as his beloved stepdaughters, Nicole Miller and Emaline Browder. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy Hatfield (Eddie Hatfield) and James Long, along with his nieces and nephews, including Bruce Long, Billy Hatfield (Stephanie), and Wendy Lemacks (Jimmy).

Jerry will be dearly missed by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Jerry spent over two decades as a tow truck driver, working for City Garage and Body Shop, Campbell’s Wrecker Service, Schroeder’s Towing, Wingard’s Towing, and Freedom Towing. He took pride in his work and always gave his best, no matter the task.

Jerry was a passionate fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, cheering on the USC baseball and football teams with unwavering enthusiasm. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and watching Stargate. Above all, he loved being with his family and making memories with those he cherished most. Though he could be stern and set in his ways, his family knew the depth of his love and his desire to protect and provide for them.

In August 2016, Jerry gave his life to God, finding faith through the encouragement and steadfast belief of his wife. Whenever times were tough, she would remind him that it was just Satan trying to tear them apart, and Jerry would refocus on his faith and family. His transformation was a testament to the power of faith and love.

Jerry will be remembered as a hardworking man who stood firm in his convictions and took pride in his family. He was proud of his children and took pride in the family he built alongside his wife. Jerry’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 6 p.m. at Edmund First Baptist Church, 6256 Edmund Hwy, Lexington, SC, 29073. Friends and family are invited to attend and share their memories.
