like a true artist, he painted a future for himself filled with perseverance and greatness
It is with profound sorrow and love that we mourn the passing of my brother, Kristopher David McGhee, affectionately known as David, at the age of 52. He leaves behind his beloved son, Marlowe; his caring wife, Lori, his dedicated siblings, Jonas and Janine, and his loving mother, Criss, Adult Stepchildren Ashley and Brian, Grandchildren who loved their “papa” Ryland, Evelyn, Emelya and best friend Will. He loved the Lord, sharing Jesus and helping others was his passion.
David was born on March 14, 1972, in Pensacola, Florida. From an early age, his brilliance was evident, he was reading by the age of two. A gifted mind and a true Renaissance man, David’s passions spanned many fields, but at his core, he was always an artist. As a child, he delighted in creating imaginary worlds and stories for his siblings, a testament to his boundless creativity.
At nine years old, David moved to Fort Meade, Maryland, where he spent much of his childhood on a military base. His adventurous spirit flourished as he rode his bike for hours, diligently bagged groceries at the local commissary, and kept an impeccable room while sharing it with his younger brother. He excelled in art, winning numerous contests, and even took up gymnastics in high school.
In his final year of high school, David moved to Severn, Maryland, where he faced trials and tribulations. Yet, like a true artist, he painted a future for himself filled with perseverance and greatness. After winning an award for being the fastest cashier, his mother suggested he join the Coast Guard, a decision that would shape the next 32 years of his life.
David’s career in the Coast Guard was distinguished by groundbreaking achievements. He became the first Health Services Technician (HS) to complete both the Boarding Team Member and Boarding Officer Schools. He designed the Tactical Law Enforcement Team indicator, which he proudly wore until his retirement. His training included graduating from the Navy Special Operations Combat Medic Course and the Navy’s Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape School, US Army Combative Course, and numerous other courses and schools. Throughout his service, he earned numerous commendations and awards, embodying the very essence of dedication, courage, and excellence. During his 32 years of military service, he continued his education outside of the military, and he received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, a MPH. and a MBA
As a young boy, David spent hours sketching superheroes and collecting comic books. Fittingly, he grew up to become a real-life hero: to his nation, his son, and his family.
With the deepest regret and eternal love, we bid farewell to David. Fair winds and following seas, brother, and we have the watch over Marlowe.
A private service to honor and remember his life will be held for family and close friends at Tahoma National.
We will continue to celebrate his life, love, and legacy with a time for friends and family who knew and loved him.
