Wayne Douglass Burress, age 75, of Lexington, SC, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025. Born on December 13, 1949, to the late LT and Marjorie Burress, Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched many lives through his passion for service, faith, and his loving spirit.

Wayne was married to his childhood sweetheart, Karyl, for 54 wonderful years. Their marriage was inseparable and a true covenant marriage—built on faith, love, and unwavering commitment to one another. Together, they raised two children, Chris (wife Carrie Burress) and Kelli (husband Lance Daniel). Wayne was the cherished Pops of eight grandchildren: Trevor and Landrey (children of Kelli and Lance) and Taylor, Logan, Brady, Ellie, Kiki, and Claire (children of Chris and Carrie). He took immense joy in bragging about their accomplishments and loved them dearly.

Wayne graduated from Harding University with a Bible degree, a foundation that guided his life and faith. He later earned a degree in elementary education from Southern Arkansas University. His education and experiences played a significant role in his work in youth ministry, education, videography, computer programming, and as a draftsman, where he continually sought to help and inspire those around him.

Wayne was passionate about his hobbies, which included model trains, photography, singing, 3D printing, and being an avid reader. His love for reading was especially reflected in his deep engagement with the Bible, but he also enjoyed other nonfiction books that expanded his knowledge and understanding of the world.

Wayne had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease those he loved, always bringing laughter to the room. He had a special way of connecting with his family, and one of his favorite pastimes was teaching his beloved grandchildren his signature Donald Duck voice—a tradition he passed down to the younger ones in the family, much to their delight. He also cherished beach trips with his whole family, where the laughter, love, and memories created together were priceless to him.

However, it was his deep faith and love for Jesus Christ that defined his life. Wayne was bold in sharing his faith wherever he happened to be, never hesitating to speak of God's love for others. He never met a stranger, and he loved telling others about the hope and grace found in Christ.

A member of Palmetto Church of Christ in Irmo, SC, Wayne had a heart for service and mission work that touched many. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and a relentless desire to encourage others. Wayne will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support they have received during Wayne’s illness and in the time following his death. They truly appreciate the kindness and encouragement shown to them.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 6:00 PM  at Palmetto Church of Christ,  7000 Nursery Rd., Columbia, SC 29212 Irmo, SC. The family welcomes all to join them in remembering Wayne and the joy he brought to the world.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congo ministries at Palmetto Church of Christ, an organization that was close to Wayne’s heart.
