Mrs. Elizabeth Alford Hedgecock, 78, of Colfax peacefully passed away on March 23, 2025 surrounded by family. Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Hilliard Blair and Anna (King) Alford and wife of James “Jim” Hedgecock.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband, Jim Hedgecock; her children, Charlanne Hedgecock, Michael (Christy) Hedgecock, Janet Hedgecock Melton; honorary child, Kislyn Thomas; siblings, Francis “Buck” Alford and Mary Alford (Mike) Carman; her grandchildren, Christopher James “Jamie” (Rachel) Hedgecock, Mary Elizabeth “Mollie” (Adam) Pinkham, Jacob Hedgecock, John Melton, Abigail (Alex) Hedgecock, Avery Atwood, Daniel (Hannah) Ballard, Levi Hedgecock, Weston Hedgecock; honorary grandchild, DaeShawn Thomas; her great grandchildren, Carter Dunback, Rowan Ballard, and Callum Pinkham. Elizabeth is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Regina Alford Wilson, son, James Stanley “Stan” Hedgecock, daughter Catherine Michele Hedgecock Ballard, and grandson Joseph “Joe” Michael Hedgecock.
Throughout her life, Elizabeth dedicated herself to service and improving the lives of others. As Director of Development for the non-profit, Room at the Inn of the Triad, she supported and mentored homeless pregnant women and expectant single mothers. Her commitment to serve those in need extended beyond her professional life. She served on the boards of Partners Ending Homelessness, The Continuum of Care for Guilford County, Parents Against Asbestos in Schools, and Sandy Ridge Community Development Association. Elizabeth gave selflessly of her time to the Girl Scouts, serving on a thirteen-county council and leading multiple troops for more than a decade, including extensive travel with them. Her dedication earned her the prestigious National Thanks Badge Award, a testament to her leadership and impact on countless young lives. Elizabeth was also an active and beloved member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she served faithfully for decades, singing in the choir, serving on the Stewardship Committee, and leading the Living Your Strengths Program, where she helped others discover their unique gifts.
The family will receive friends at Holy Cross Catholic Parish, 616 S Cherry St, Kernersville, NC 27284 on Friday, March 28th, 2025 from 2:00PM - 3:15PM. Funeral Mass will begin at 3:30PM celebrated by Father Noah Carter, STL. The family will continue to receive friends at the family home following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Room at The Inn of the Triad (PO Box 13936 Greensboro, NC 27415) or to the Jim and Elizabeth Hedgecock Trusts established at both The Diocese of Charlotte Campus Ministries (Checks may be payable to “Foundation of the RCDOC” 1123 S. Church St. Charlotte, NC 28203 with a memo of “Hedgecock Seminary Fund” or “Hedgecock Campus Fund”) and St. Joseph’s Seminary (22 Arctus Ave. Mt. Holly, NC 28120).
