Lawrence Simon Burkett 5/4/1944- 3/12/2025
He left this earth on 3/12/25. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to Harry L. and Elvire Delchevalerie Burkett. Survived by loving wife Linda (White) Burkett of almost 56 years and devoted daughters Wendy Torres (Rick), Maya and Dominic, Cherilyn Marthaler (Barrett), Luke and Colton, Jennifer Linville (Steve), Lainey and Vincent, and older sister Valerie Hoyt and niece Laura Zenner. Preceded in death by his parents and younger sister Catherine Stillwell.
Larry was a faithful 30 year Tucson Fire Department employee starting in 1971. He became an engineer in 1975 and made captain in 1978. He also spent a few years as the Public Information Officer for the fire department. He was very involved in the union. He was secretary before he became union president of Local 479 . He was also a past president of the Tucson Fire Department Retirees.
He was a jack of all trades, lead guitar player, artist, cook, block layer, and also a volunteer house builder working with deserving families in Agua Prieta, Mexico. He also learned how to deal with electrical issues from his father-in-law Robert (Bob) White, a journeyman electrician. Larry was the son that Bob never had. They loved to hunt and fish together and taught all of his daughters to fish. Larry was a good, good man. He was a beloved husband, supportive Dad and Grampie. He also loved his doggie girl Rainey.
He was our rock and we loved him. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Last Alarm Foundation (lastalarmfoundation.com).
