Donald Leroy Cook, age 87, passed away at Poudre Valley Hospital on March 16, 2025 while battling pneumonia. Don was born April 27, 1937 in Greeley, CO to Jasper and Lillian Cook. He grew up on farms in the Ault area and graduated from Ault High School in 1955. Don attended Colorado A&M (CSU) for one year, and then started working at Woodward in 1956, until retiring in 1992. Don was drafted into the US Army in 1960 and spent time at Ft. Sheridan, IL, and Gary, IN until honorably discharged in 1962. While working at Woodward, Don met his wife, Pamela, and they were married in 1982. Don had many jobs at Woodward including machinist, tool designer, and supervisor of computerized machining areas.
Don enjoyed outdoor activities including golf, pitching in many horseshoe tournaments, fishing and spending time at their cabin in Red Feather Lakes. Don was also an avid bowler, bowling in various leagues in Ft. Collins and Greeley for over 50 years. He enjoyed his monthly card playing buddies as well as the Woodward Retiree gatherings. He always looked forward to breakfast at the Sale Barn with his best friend Brad and other farmer friends.
As a kid, Don always wanted to be an auctioneer. He fulfilled that dream in 1994 when he became an auction clerk and auctioneer working for various auction companies.
Don is survived by his wife Pam of Ft Collins, his sister Beverly Wiltse and niece Kathy Wiltse of Ault, nephew Gary (Sandy) Wiltse of WI, numerous great-nieces, great-nephew, great-great-nieces, great-great nephews and cousins. Also surviving are Don’s very close friends Brad and Arlene Cole and the amazing neighborhood friends. Don was preceded in death by his mother and father, nephew Mike Wiltse, and Don and Pam’s Beagle Dog Aspen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Drake Centre, 802 W. Drake, Ft Collins CO on Monday April 28th from 2-5pm, with program and sharing of stories starting at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to NOCO Humane, or your favorite charity.
