In Loving Memory of Mrs. Rosalie M. Buyce
Rosalie Mae Buyce, age 100, of Winter Haven, Florida passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Life Care Center in Winter Haven.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 1st, 2025, at Kersey Funeral Home in Auburndale, FL with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida that afternoon. Visitation will be one hour prior to her service at the funeral home.
Rosalie Mae Buyce was born March 18th, 1925, the 5th of 5 daughters, to Quincy Monroe Mead and Ethel Lillian Chapin Mead in Gloversville, New York. She grew up in Gloversville and graduated from Gloversville High School in 1943. Rosalie earned a certificate as a hair stylist and went on to work as a stylist, and later at the Mica Company. Other employment included working for the Rexford NY post office delivering mail, at the Burnt Hills Veterinary Clinic, operating a hair salon in her house, as well as for the Niskayuna School District. She met Lester William Buyce shortly after he returned from active duty with the Navy following World War II. They were married December 12, 1947, in the Methodist Church. Rosalie and Lester first lived in Alplaus, then Rexford, NY and later to a house they built in Scotia, NY until moving to Winter Haven Florida in 1980. Rosalie and Lester enjoyed an active outdoor lifestyle including tent camping, building and then vacationing in their cabin in Wells NY, water skiing, boating, swimming, biking, and snow skiing. After their move to Florida, Rosalie and Lester joined the Baptist church. She volunteered at her church, for Meals on Wheels and with the school district in Winter Haven.
Rosalie is survived by her daughter Linda (Larry) Martin of Port Charlotte, FL and son Kenneth (Joanne) Buyce of Scotia, NY, 4 grandchildren; Heather (Jeff) Flesner, Matt Martin, Jennifer (Pete) Mullin, and Melissa (Joseph) Capobianco, 5 great grandchildren; Ryleigh, Danica, Dane, Bowen and Isla, many nieces and nephews as well as her good friend Ruth Lane.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lester on February 19, 2012, and 4 sisters; Geraldine Fosmire, Beatrice Simons, Victoria Michalek and Lucy Mead.
Memorial gifts may be sent to Polk County Humane Society or Meals on Wheels of Winter Haven.
