Peter Harry Marros
March 12th, 1933 - March 23rd, 2025
Peter Harry Marros passed away holding his wife's hand in the early morning hours on March 23, 2025, in Yuba City, CA.
Peter was born in Rapid City, SD, on March 12, 1933, the middle child to Greek immigrants, Harry and Maria Marros.
Peter graduated from Central High School in Rapid City. He attended one year at Black Hills State Teachers College before joining the Air Force.
He was stationed in Labrador, and then at Beale Air Force Base. While at Beale, he assisted in the evacuation of Marysville, CA, during the 1955 Christmas Eve flood.
After completing his enlistment, he graduated from Black Hills State Teachers College with a B.A. in Physical Education. He later earned an M.A. in Education from Chico State College.
Peter taught P.E. for six years in Rapid City School District before he decided in 1965, to move to Yuba City, CA. He taught at Lincoln School and Berry School, but mostly at Gray Avenue, retiring in 1999.
After retiring, he spent 20 years working as a substitute teacher because he really liked being with the kids. The kids lovingly dubbed him "grandpa."
Peter was known for his sense of humor. He always had a joke that he just had to tell you. He enjoyed any joke that was told to him. His infectious laughter was famous.
Survivors include his wife and partner, of 42 years, Nadean Vaughn Marros, of Yuba City, CA; son, Mitch Marros, of Yuba City, CA; stepsons, John Korompilas (Andrea), of Folsom, CA, and Coy D. Hunter (Michelle), of Rapid City, SD; stepdaughter, Lorrie Smith (David), of Yuba City, CA; sister, Katherine Perry, of Buffalo, WY; grandsons, Nick Korompilas, and Coy J. Hunter; granddaughters, Danielle Korompilas, and Mackenzie Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and Steve.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St., Yuba City, CA. A reception will follow at The Harvst Room, 1475 Tharp Rd. Yuba City, CA.
Burial will be in Buffalo, WY, next to his parents and brother.
