Harrell "Peek" Hames
June 13th, 1940 - March 25th, 2025
Harrell Peek Hames, known affectionately as “Peek,” passed away on March 25, 2025, with his loving wife, Linda, by his side. He was born on June 13, 1940, to Winters B. and Eleanor Abshier Hames. Peek is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Linda Hames, his son Brian Reeves, his daughter, Cherie Hayes, and her husband, Steven. He also has two cherished grandchildren, Nathan Hayes who greeted him with open arms in Heaven and Kaylee Dale, and husband Ben, as well as three beloved great-grandchildren, Hayes, Greyson and Wrenley, and Mary Ann Mcintyre, his sister.
With the exception of his time spent in the U.S. Army, Peek was a lifelong resident of Belleview. He graduated from Lake Weir High School in 1958 and soon after enlisted in the Army, where he proudly served his country for several years. Upon completing his service, he returned to Belleview and, after working various jobs, established his own business, Peek's Printing.
Beyond his work in printing, Peek was a dedicated writer for the Voice of South Marion, an active member of his church, and a proud 50-year member of the Belleview Masonic Lodge. He also devoted time to coaching boys' baseball and basketball and was an accomplished painter whose artwork often reflected his deep appreciation for nature.
In his retirement, Peek found immense joy in spending time with Linda, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. They spent many times fishing and camping with friends. He also loved the outdoors, and many of his paintings captured the beauty of the woods and lakes he so admired. Peek had a profound love for the Belleview community, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate Peek's life will be held on April 12 at 11:00 AM at the Mericamp Road Church of Christ. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nathan Hayes Foundation, at Mount Dora Christian Academy.
